The Renault Megane RS Trophy has set a new lap record at the
Nürburgring-Nordschleife for a production-spec front-wheel drive car.
With Renault Sport development driver Laurent Hurgon behind the wheel, the
recently-unveiled sport hatch/coupe set a record lap time today (June 17) of 8
minutes and 7.97 seconds on the course - beating the old record of 8 minutes and
17 seconds set by the previous Renault Megane R26.R.
The Megane RS Trophy
comes with a 2.0 liter turbocharged unit with an output of 261 hp and 265 lb-ft
(360 Nm) of torque. That's an increase of 15 hp and 14 lb-ft, respectively, over
the standard Megane RS.
The RS Trophy used Bridgestone RE050A race tires
for the run and had optimized suspension settings.
