The German tuning specialist MTM will be represented at the Geneva Motor Show
with two special cars.
The first one is a polished Audi R8. The engineers
at MTM spent 1200 man hours creating this shining example of their technical
expertise, of which 700 hours went into scrapping the original paint from the
car and polishing the aluminum body to high gloss. All plastic body parts have
been replaced with lightweight carbon fiber alternatives. An adjustable rear
spoiler and a front lip also made from carbon fiber improve the aerodynamic
characteristics and help stabilize the car at high speeds.
Two
turbochargers have been added to its V10 engine, raising the output to 777 hp
and 655 lb-ft (888 Nm) of torque.
The top speed is expected to be over 218 mph (350 km/h).
Acceleration figures are estimated at:
- 0 to 60 mph (98 km/h) in 2.9 seconds,
- 0 to 124 mph (200 km/h) in 9.37 seconds,
- 0 to 186 mph (300 km/h) in 19.42 seconds.
As you might remember, the Germans achieved 225 mph (362.5 km/h) in a
slightly less powerful Audi RS6 on the Nardo high-speed track in Southern Italy
in September last year. Therefore these figures are well founded.
The R8
from MTM uses a coil over kit with adjustable suspension, 20-inch "Bimoto"
forged rims and MTM brakes with 8-piston calipers at the front and rear axle.
MTM values this record-breaking R8 at 400,000 EUR ($540,000).
The
less-expensive second car is based on the Audi TT RS. It is capable of speeds
over 190 mph and features a 472-horsepower engine with 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of
torque. The TT RS Clubsport accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (98 km/h) in 3.8
seconds. The wheels and the brakes are the same as on the R8 above.
The
price is 84,166 EUR ($114,500 at the current rates).
