With financial backing from the luxury watchmaker BRM, a previously unknown
French company has officially unveiled its ambitious project to build a 1000-hp
supercar. Genty Automotive plans to reveal the finished car at the 2012 Paris
Motor Show and then sell 15 personalized Akylone supercars at an undisclosed
price.
Described as the "subtle alchemy between pure performance and emotion," the
bespoke supercar has an aggressive front fascia, a steeply raked roofline, a
prominent rear diffuser and a drag coefficient of 0.35. Inside, the cabin is
relatively stark but features sports seats, an infotainment system and a wide
center console.
Power comes from an alleged twin-turbo 4.8-liter V8 engine with more than 1,000
hp (746 kW) and 940 lb-ft (1,273 Nm) of torque. It is connected to seven-speed
sequential transmission which enables the 2,425 lbs (1,100 kg) Akylone to
accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 220 mph (354
km/h). Other highlights include rear-wheel drive, carbon ceramic brakes and a
carbon fiber / aluminum chassis.
If production commences it will be situated in St Pourcain sur Sioule, a little
town in the center of France.
