2006 Jeep Liberty

No other vehicle in the mid-size sport-utility market trumps Jeep Liberty when it comes to off-road capability, on-road refinement, and the fun it provides proponents of active lifestyles. For the 2006 model year, Liberty adds the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) as standard equipment to its stack of customer benefits. ESP provides enhanced vehicle stability on all surfaces.

“Jeep Liberty is immediately recognizable as a Jeep 4x4 with its large, round headlamps, the signature seven-slot grille, and the vehicle’s upright stance,” said Jeff Bell, Vice President — Jeep, Chrysler Group. “Jeep Liberty’s wide wheel flares, roof rack and externally mounted spare tire give the vehicle an adventurous, ready-for-any-challenge appearance. With ESP, Jeep Liberty can go anywhere and do anything with greater safety and security.”

ESP enhances driver control and helps maintain directional stability under all conditions. It includes Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM). ESP provides the greatest benefit in critical driving situations such as turns and is especially valuable when driving on mixed surface conditions such as patchy snow, ice or gravel. If there’s a discernible difference between what the driver asks through the steering and the vehicle’s path, ESP applies selective braking and throttle input to put the car back onto the driver’s intended path. The system is calibrated to offer more control of the vehicle under a variety of conditions, and to operate in a manner that is not intrusive in normal or spirited driving. ESP includes an advanced Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), all-speed Traction Control System (TCS), four-wheel Brake Traction Control System (BTCS), Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) and Brake Assist.

ESP adds a new dimension to Liberty’s formidable 4x4 capabilities. Two four-wheel-drive systems are available. Command-Trac is a part-time system that allows drivers to shift on the fly into high-range four-wheel drive at speeds up to 55 mph. Command-Trac provides the peace of mind of available four-wheel-drive capability for part-time use on slippery or loose surfaces (snow, mud or sand) along with the convenience of shift-on-the-fly.

Select-Trac is a full-time four-wheel-drive system. It provides four-wheel-drive capability for full-time year-round use on any road surface, along with shift-on-the-fly functionality. ...Jeep Liberty: Page 2
